Business Immigration to Canada

To be eligible for Start-up Visa Program, candidates must:

• Have an innovative business idea and a business plan
• Receive a Letter of Support from one of the designated organizations in Canada. At the moment, there are only three types of organizations that can participate in the investment process:

1. Venture Capital Funds - must invest at least $ 200,000 CAD.
2. Angel Investor Groups - the investments must be at least $ 75,000 CAD.
3. Business Incubator Organizations - no investment requirements, but the applicant has to be accepted into one of the business incubators in Canada.

The advantages of the Start-up Visa immigration program:

• Relatively low language requirements - CLB 5.
• Within one business idea may apply for up to 5 founders (as well as their family members).
• Low educational requirements - have at least 1 year of post-secondary education.

Self-employed Persons Program

The Self-employed Persons Program allows people to immigrate to Canada permanently as a self-employed person.

If you’re interested in this program, you must:

• have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics and
• be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada

There is no formal definition of “significant contribution”, however, the visa officer considers the following factors:

• Will the business benefit Canadian society and provide an economic boost to the country/city/region?
• Will new job opportunities be created for Canadians?
• Will the new business provide technological and innovative development in Canada?

Eligibility to the program:

To be eligible for Self-employed programs, a candidate must:

• have relevant experience between 5 years before the application date, either in cultural or athletic activities:​

• 1. At least two years of self-employment (can be made up of 2 separate periods of 1 consecutive year), or
  2. At least two years of participation in international activities (can be made up of 2 separate periods of 1 consecutive year), or
  3. At least a combo of one year of self-employment, and one year of participation in international activities.

• Have to meet the selection criteria for self-employed people, which means getting a minimum of 35 points out of 100 on the main selection criteria (education, work experience, age, knowledge of the language, adaptability).

Only occupations in art, culture, recreation, and sport under the National Occupation Classification (NOC) qualify for this program.
